Drop Everything & Read Day

In honor of Drop Everything & Read Day, I’m sharing my favorite books and beach reads so far this year! I’ve always been a paperback “feel the pages in my hands” kind of girl, but since I travel so much for work, I’ve been getting into a lot more audiobooks and my Kindle app!

I don’t always feel like I have the time to read, but I’ve made it a resolution for this year to cut down on my phone time and instead of scrolling on Instagram before bed, I pull out a good book!

"Paper Towns" by John Green

One of my all-time favorite young adult novels, this book explores small town teens who embark on an adventure. This book really grapples and debunks the idea of the “perfect mystery woman” or the stereotype of the manic pixie dream girl. John Green continues to be a favorite of mine!

"Before I Fall" by Lauren Oliver

A modern Groundhog Day, this a fun YA read about a girl who experiences the same day over and over and uses this opportunity to make a change in her life. A good vacation read!

"The Sun and Her Flowers" by Rupi Kaur

A book of poetry and illustrations, this is a really emotional read and the writer uses her own experiences of sexual assault, relationships, growth and healing throughout the book! Bring your tissues for this one.

"A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman

Keep your tissues out, because this telling of an older man who has new neighbors move to town will leave you emotional and feeling more careful about how you treat the people around you. We’ve all been through something!

"The Scarlet Letters: My Secret Year of Men in an L.A. Dungeon" by Jenny Nordbak

If you want a naughty read, this is the book for you! A tell-all book about a woman who finds herself interviewing to be a dominatrix in a Los Angeles dungeon and takes the job. All based on a true story from the author herself. I read this almost in one sitting -- it kept me reading until the end!

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" by J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany

If you haven’t read the follow up play to the Harry Potter series, go do it! It’s a great read despite being in play format, don’t let that discourage you. Find out what the gang has been up to and go on a fresh new adventure!
