The wintertime can be a drag, especially when you're home with nothing to do. Other than the holidays, there isn't as much excitement as say, the summer season, and it's definitely the best time to take up a new hobby! There's many hobbies you should take up in the winter, but I've compiled my 7 favorites:
Scrapbooking was one of my all-time fave things growing up! Because hardly anyone prints film photography anymore, not very many people scrapbook. It's incredibly cheap, however, to take your camera's memory card to your local drugstore and print off 5x7 copies of your images, and a variety of local craft stores sell affordable gel pens, stickers and scrapbooking paper.
writing / blogging
If you don't already have a blog, starting a blog can keep you occupied during the winter. If you're not the type to share your life on a public blog, writing in general is equally occupying. Create your own short story, freshen up your grammar skills or journal your feelings.
baking / cooking
Of course, baking Christmas cookies is perfect for the season, as well as practicing your Christmas and New Year's dinner spreads. Becoming a better baker or cook is beneficial to this time of year, as well as your life from here on out. I sure wish I were a better cook!
Photography is my LIFE. Whether you're mastering iPhone photography or taking your DSLR out for a spin, the winter provides some breathtaking scenes. Going for a brisk walk and noticing the everyday beauties in the winter environment can help you practice your photog skills, while at home you can practice your editing techniques with iPhone apps or Adobe Lightroom!
Embroidery is one of Emma's personal favorites - and I see why! Embroidery is a talent that can challenge your abilities and force you to learn new, complex skills while being extremely therapeutic and calming with its repetition. Knitting is a favorite of mine if embroidery is too difficult for you!
To some, working out is a hobby! I'm a big supporter of Blogilates by Cassey Ho. Every month, Cassey sends a brand new exercise plan based upon the calendar days, so be sure you subscribe to her email list! Something fun like this can make exercise a breeze!
Calligraphy has been all the rage on Instagram and Tumblr this year! It's a challenging art to master (and to be honest, very few do), but it's a positive challenge to give yourself! Plus, why not make your Instagram feed super pretty and unique?
Which hobby have you taken up this winter season?
