Having a bad day? I'm sorry, boo! There's many ways to cheer yourself up and be sure you know how to put your best foot forward in the everyday to set yourself up for success.
This may seem like a no brainer, but leading with kindness can in fact reduce our own feelings of grief and anger. Simply smiling at someone on the street or offering to hold a door open for the person behind you is a simple gesture to make in your everyday. Next time you're at Starbucks, consider grabbing the tab of the person behind you in line.
BUT DON'T BE A PUSHOVER
Being kind doesn't mean you let people walk all over you. Part of putting your best foot forward is sticking up for what you deserve and how you should be treated. Don't let yourself get walked all over - stand strong with your values and ethics every day.
BRUSH YOUR TEETH EVERY NIGHT
Guilty. I wasn't the best at brushing my teeth every day (I know, gross! #KeepinItReal) and went to the dentist to discover a variety of near-cavities that I needed to pause. Now, I've been brushing and flossing before and after sleeping, plus the mouthwash, plus the dental health paste - the whole nine yards!
Oral health is linked to a higher risk of coronary artery disease and stroke - no, I'm not kidding. Do what you can to take good care of those chompers!
WRITE IN A GRATITUDE JOURNAL
I know you've probably been told this over and over again, but it's true: you need a gratitude journal! Tools like the 5 Minute Journal encourage you to exercise your daily gratitude. Scientists have found that being grateful for the things you do have leads to better physical and psychological health, better sleep, greater self-esteem and reduced aggression, to name a few.
REJECT TOXIC ENERGY
If there's someone or something in your life that is causing you to stress and worry, rid yourself of this toxic energy. A "friend" that means well when she teases you, a boss that never praises your accomplishments or a family member with those atrocious political Facebook posts. Get rid of all of it, girl! You don't need that toxic energy sucking up your love and light.
GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR SENTIMENTAL SIDE
I'm not gonna lie, a good episode of What Would You Do? and I'm bawling. Touching into this emotional, sentimental side of you is so important when exercising empathy for other humans. I've always been a relatively highly sensitive, sentimental person, so emotional situations that hurt my heart are easy to come by, and honestly, I wouldn't trade this for the world!
How do you put your best foot forward each day?
