How to Survive Valentine's Day (For the Perpetually Single)

I'm the girl who takes herself to dinner, buys herself a drink and takes herself home. I haven't always been this way - being alone used to be a source of anxiety for me. I felt as if I didn't matter as much if I was on my own. Over time, I've learned how to survive Valentine's Day and this time of year.

Let's be honest: 2016 wasn't the best year for many people and I feel like I emerged a little battered. But 2017 is a new year with new hope for the future! I have a new job, new friends and the world is mine to explore. With my new job as a flight attendant, I spend a lot of time exploring new places on my layovers and lot of that time is spent by myself!

Just recently, I spent 24 hours in Houston, Texas. I went to the mall, took myself to dinner and saw a movie alone. I spent the day with myself, reflecting on the person I've become. I'm proud of where I'm at and who I choose to be. Don't be shy! Ask yourself out this Valentine's Day... I'm sure you'll say yes! Here's some ideas for the best solo Valentine's Day ever:

SEE A MOVIE

No, really. I know this sounds cliché, but take yourself to a movie! Pick the movie, get some popcorn and enjoy the film without having to wonder if the other person is liking it or not! 

VISIT THE LIBRARY

Find a good book (or two) and spend the day curled up in a corner! You won't regret it.

TRY A RECIPE

It doesn't matter if you can cook or not! Try a self wine-and-dine, try to cook something you've never made before. You may surprise yourself!

LEARN A NEW SKILL

Whether it's knitting, a new language or something crazy! YouTube has everything now, right?

HAVE A PHOTO SESSION

It could be selfies with your phone camera, or treat yourself to professional photos! Get all dressed up, feel your best and capture it. 

VOLUNTEER

Feel better, give back! Even if it's just one afternoon, spend some time tending to your community. 

EXERCISE!

Go on a walk, try some yoga or hit the gym. I feel so energized after I've worked out! Turn up your music and go wild. 

MAKE SOMETHING

Try to draw, paint, anything creative! Even if you don't feel good at it, make something with your hands. Many of us don't get the time to do this on a regular basis.

GO GROCERY SHOPPING

This has to be my favorite solo activity! I love to put some music on and wander the aisles.

Don't forget your self care: buy yourself that bath bomb! Make some tea! Do what makes you happy. At the end of the day, you are the person that pulls you out of bed. You see yourself in the mirror every day. You live with yourself. Love this body you are in; you only get one. Take good care of your body, as it carries you through it all. I believe in you & you should too!
