In a job like mine, you can expect a lot of early mornings! I work as a flight attendant for a major airline and although the schedule can be brutal, my love of travel makes it worth it! The past two nights in a row, I was awake by 2:30 a.m. for work. Last week, I worked 3 all nighters in a row! My poor body has a tough time adjusting to the crazy schedule that happens all the time. This is when knowing how to wake yourself up without coffee is key.
There's little to no consistency with my days and that leaves me exhausted! I try not to reach for that cup of joe anymore. If I do, by the afternoon I have a major coffee hangover. I start to crash, I have dry mouth and pretty gross breath. Don't get me wrong: I love my coffee! But I need to start drinking it because I want to, not because I'm desperate for some caffeine.
Here's my go-to tips and tricks for staying bright-eyed and bushy-tailed even on those rough mornings when you just want to press snooze!
GO TO SLEEP EARLY!
I stress the importance of sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to major health issues including greater chances of high blood pressure and heart disease.
EAT A BALANCED BREAKFAST
Start the day out right, avoid breads and starchy foods and try to stick with a high-protein breakfast! My favorite is oats with peanut butter, or scrambled eggs.
TRY MORNING YOGA
Get up and get moving! Try some stretches in your bed as you wake up. Move all of your fingers and toes. My favorite wake up stretch involves the classic Downward Dog and Child's Pose!
POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING
Get yourself excited for what the day has to bring. You'll stay far more awake when you actually want to be awake!
Still craving that warm morning drink? Try switching to decaffeinated tea!
MAKE A LIST
Make a very attainable list of goals for the day and you'll be proud each time you cross something off!
How do you stay awake without resorting to caffeine?
